In a person without diabetes, carbohydrates you eat are broken down to glucose, then your body sends out insulin to put that glucose into storage. With diabetes, too little insulin goes out OR insulin isn’t able to put the glucose into storage as well as it should. In people with type 1 diabetes or when type 2 diabetes worsens, the body stops making insulin all together. At that point, you must get shots of insulin.
