You might need to drink sports drinks...
... if you're a professional athlete or marathon runner. Commercials and ads make it seem like everyone who exercises needs a sports drink, but that's just not the case.

The average child will never need a sports drink. For adults, unless you're exercising heavily for over an hour, plain old water should be fine. For those who get cramps during long bouts of activity, milk is a good drink for replacing electrolytes and carbohydrates. Juice diluted with water is also fine.
If you exercise at a high intensity for long periods of time and really want to use sports drinks, be aware that they often have lots of added sugar. There are almost 9 teaspoons of sugar in the sports drink above. That's as much sugar as you would get from eating 1½ cups of ice cream!
